George Washington’s Thanksgiving Proclamation

The following Thanksgiving Proclamation was issued by President George Washington, at the request of Congress, on October 3, 1789:
Whereas it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor; and—Whereas both Houses of Congress have, by their joint committee, requested me “to recommend to the people of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer, to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many and signal favors of Almighty God, especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness:”

Now, therefore, I do recommend and assign Thursday, the 26th day of November next, to be devoted by the people of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being who is the beneficent author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be; that we may then all unite in rendering unto Him our sincere and humble thanks for His kind care and protection of the people of this country previous to their becoming a nation; for the signal and manifold mercies and the favor, able interpositions of His providence in the course and conclusion of the late war; for the great degree of tranquillity, union, and plenty which we have since enjoyed; for the peaceable and rational manner in which we have been enabled to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national one now lately instituted; for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed, and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge; and, in general, for all the great and various favors which He has been pleased to confer upon us.

And also that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations, and beseech Him to pardon our national and other trangressions; to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually; to render our National Government a blessing to all the people by constantly being a Government of wise, just, and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed; to protect and guide all sovereigns and nations (especially such as have shown kindness to us), and to bless them with good governments, peace, and concord; to promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the increase of science among them and us; and, generally, to grant unto all mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as He alone knows to be best.

Given under my hand at the City of New York the third day of October in the year of our Lord 1789.

Go. Washington
Most of the Founding Fathers had a belief in God. They believed in prayer. They believed in the notion that God blesses man. That America and it freedoms are a blessing from God. That a day of thanksgivings was warranted.

How far we have fallen as a nation. We live in a time where "wrong is right" and "right is wrong." Our politicians look out for their selfish interests not the interests of a nation built upon good deeds, virtue, and the rule of Constitutional law.

Thanksgiving is divinely inspired. May all of us thanks our Heavenly Father on this blessed day.

Dealey Plaza and 50th Anniversery of JFK Assassination

Today (11/22/13) marks the 50th anniversary of the assassination of John F. Kennedy. (Interesting, C. S. Lewis died the same day.) Recently, my son and I were in Dallas and spent some time in Dealey Plaza.

Younger people consider it ancient history. I was a very young boy, remembering the day, the funeral and other events surrounding this because we had just got our first TV. With only three stations, that was all that seemed to be on.

Most of us have seen the en Abraham Zapruder video, made from his home-movie camera. It provides the graphic images of the assassination. The photos and movies do little to put it all into perspective. Being there gives one the ability to stand on the grassy knoll, see the layout of Elm Street and understand the actual travel route, and see the Texas School Book Depository from where Oswald fired the fatal shot. We did not pay the $16 to enter the Sixth Floor Museum  due to time (and cost -- a ridiculous fee).

The experience was educational for both my son and I. If you find yourself in Dallas, it is worth the visit. The historical significance on America and our Presidential institution is invaluable.

Nuclear Option Means Increased Partisian Fever

Today, the 52 Democrat Senators voted to change Senate rules on confirming most presidential nominees. This "nuclear option" action has been threatened for a few years, but desperate Democrats were willing to go to extremes for their short-termed, selfish motives.
The nuclear option refers to a move by the majority party in Senate to change the Senate rules to allow most executive branch and judicial nominations to be approved with a simple majority – 51 votes — rather than the 60 votes now required. Under longstanding rules, the minority party has been able to block a nomination with just 41 votes, commonly called a filibuster.
The Democrat intent is to place more liberals on the courts, namely the DC Court of Appeals which is balanced today. Harry Reid's effort will accomplish one major thing:  increase partisan fever.

Historically the Senate, due in part to rules like this and a six year term, has been less driven by populism, compared to the House and the constant campaigning they must do. The Senate Democrats have now officially became a populous entity -- driven by biased media, Hollywood and seedier sides of our culture. Instead of looking at facts, the Constitution, the long-term impacts of decisions and laws, its decisions will be based more on emotion and short-term vision.

It is hard to believe Harry Reid is a Mormon, because he seems to do everything opposite most LDS people would do. He is one of the most despicable politicians of our era, and there are/have been some terrible human beings in public office including Obama, Pelosi, Kerry, Biden, Clinton(s). Terrible because they could care less about America and care only about power, personal prestige and wealth.

This ruling now means the minority have no voice, no power. Tyranny now rules. What role does a minority Senator now have? None. The majority can do whatever they want; the minority party can do nothing. Today, it is 54+1 Democrats and 45 Republicans. Republican votes mean zilch. All this was done just because Obama and his cronies could not get their way on a few key nominees.

Obama's Keep Your Plan Ruling Is Unconstitutional

Obama caves to Democrat pressure and now says that "the administration will allow insurance companies to keep individual customers on their existing plans for an additional year, even if the plans don't meet the law's standards." How does a Presidency get to say what law will get enforced and shich will not. This is an outrage. Congress creates the laws, the courts interrupts the laws, and the executive branch enforces them -- Constitution 101.

The "law's standards" are laughable -- made up things by a bunch of "we know better than you" bureaucrats.

The fact is the Affordable Care Law is arguably he worst law ever created by Congress, signed by the Presidency, and held constitutional by the Supreme Court. It not only impacts one-sixth of our economy, but stripes all Americans of personal freedom, spits on the Constitution that I cherish.

The president does not have a line-item veto and he certainly can't legally re-write the Obamacare statute just because public opinion dictates and Bill Clinton says so. This is a constitutional crisis of major magnitude. Obama has been acting as if he were a king since his presidential inception. Congress and the media have permitted this to fester from the beginning. All of the apologies in the world are not going to fix a terrible law, Presidency Obama's and supporting Democrat's incompetency, and the ineptitude of the American people allowing these dolts to ruin our way of life.

Congress must act. It must repeal the Affordable Care Act.

Who Are the Few Signing Up for Obamacare?

Federal officials have claimed just over 106,000 people nationally signed up for Obamacare health insurance plans in the first month of sales. Only 26,000 of those actually went through HealthCare.gov site -- the site for those residents of the 36 states not running their own health exchange. So of those who signed up, there are some questions:
  1. Have they paid? Will they all pay?
  2. What plans did they come from? Where they canceled from a previous carrier?
  3. Are these people those that had no insurance for some time prior?
  4. Why did they not have insurance at this time?
  5. What pre-existing conditions do these applicants have?
  6. Why would they spend the time to get government-backed insurance? What was their sign-up motive?
Because the absolute insanity to think the federal government can oversee a national healthcare plan with any efficiency, only truly motivated people are going to sign up. Someone with a pre-existing condition that is either medically documented or something that has been personally diagnosed and they have been waiting to get coverage before seeking treatment.

The program's solvency depends on the healthy signing up. Namely the young and healthy. Since the Obama economy has put a damper on what America could do if government were out of its way, the youth don't have the money for health insurance (something few think they need) and doubt there will be any fine that will be enforced.

The federal systems will be full of the sick, the elderly and those that pay little into the system. It will force doctors and hospitals to provide services at financial loses. It will bankrupt some, force others to quite the business, and many others to no enter into the medical profession, especially those jobs that require years of school and residency. If they federal government thinks it can get its way by saying "see, a national healthcare system is the only one that will work," it may be in for a rude awakening.

Federal governmental officials' heads, starting at the top, should roll. We are being "lead" by dishonest thieves. Many of them are people we elected and re-elected. Shame on America.
