Motor Vehicle Crash Fatalities & Injuries for 2005

The National Highway Transportation and Safety Administration (NHTSA) made it presentation of the Motor Vehicle Traffic Crash Fatality Counts and Estimates of People Injured for 2005. These findings were based on The Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) and The National Automotive Sampling System General Estimates System (NASS GES). In 2005

-- 43,443 people were killed in motor vehicle crashes (a 1.4% increase from 2004; the highest level killed since 1990
-- 2,699,000 people were injured (a 3.2% decline from 2004)
