In England, the Institute for Public Policy Research is using penny-sized electronic chips fitted into homeowners' waste receptacles to assess the weight of their rubbish. The goal is to determine if they exceed imposed weight restrictions on their trash. These chips have been fitted to about 500,000 bins across England.
