Egyptian "Students" Don't Show Up At MSU

The news flash is: Eleven Egyptian students who were supposed to travel to a Montana university after flying to JFK airport in late July disappeared, spurring federal authorities to issue a nationwide alert. The students - who were traveling with six classmates from Mansoura University in Egypt - had their student visas revoked for failing to show up at Montana State University in Bozeman. The other six students made it to the college.

I wonder how common this is? Why did this get reported and the hundreds of others not? How many people, from the Middle East or where ever, are here on student visas but are not engaged in classroom work? I bet the number would be startling.

UPDATE 8/14: all the students have been located.
